The Tucson Alumnae Chapter currently supports four major initiatives focused on the development of our youth:
Betty Brown Scholarship
Mrs. Betty Brown was a beloved teacher and school
administrator for 35 years. She spent 30 of those years working
in the Tucson Unified School District in Tucson, Arizona. Upon
her death in September 2000, her sorority established a
scholarship fund to assist females of Black or African American
heritage in obtaining a college education.
Mrs. Brown left a legacy of high academic standards,
commitment to community service, and a love of humanity.
To honor her legacy, the Tucson Alumnae Chapter of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. established the Betty Brown
Scholarship to assist high school seniors who have a passion
to learn, a determination to succeed, and an eagerness to earn a college degree.
The Tucson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is pleased to announce that our scholarship application period is now open through March 13, 2021.

Please help us spread the word to high school senior young ladies of African-American or African heritage in Southern Arizona that may need financial support to pursue higher education.
Delta Academy
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is a national program that was created out of an urgent sense that bold action was needed to save our young females from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures. For girls between the ages of 11 and 14, Tucson Alumnae's Delta Academy enriches and enhances the education that our young teens receive in public schools. Specifically, we augment the girls' scholarship in math, science and technology; we assist them in carrying out community service projects throughout Southern Arizona; and we help to prepare the girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century.
Delta G.E.M.S.
Delta G.E.M.S. (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully),
a natural outgrowth and expansion of Delta Academy, offers
a road map for success in high school and college, as well
as career planning. The program provides opportunities for
self-reflection and growth among African American, at-risk
adolescent girls between the ages of 14 and 18. Goals for
the program are to:
The Delta G.E.M.S. sponsored by the Tucson Alumnae Chapter has partnered with the Tucson Unified School District to reach out to more girls who may benefit from the program. Meetings are scheduled every other Friday during the school year, September-June, between 10:20am and 11:15am at Tucson High School. Light snacks are provided for the participants at the end of every workshop.

EMBODI
The EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African-American males. Both informal and empirical data suggests that the vast majority of African-American males continues to be in crisis and is not reaching its fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues through dialogue, and recommendations for change and action.
The Tucson Alumnae Chapter has partnered with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated to support the Kappa Leaguers and Alpha Gents, respectively.
